This thesis is devoted to a new semi-active modal control methodology of frame structures. The control allows for precise transfer of the mechanical energy between structural vibration modes. It is realised by the lockable joints connecting structural beams. These joints can be dynamically locked and work as rigid connections, transmitting the bending moments between the adjacent beams, or can be unlocked and work as hinges. The locking e_ect introduces modal coupling that results in energy exchange between the vibration modes. The proposed control methodology has two potential applications: attenuation of low-frequency vibration and enhancement of the energy harvesting process. Proposed control algorithm also allows for signi_cant enhancement of the energy harvesting process.
